Terms of service

Effective September 24, 2026

These terms govern your use of Scope, the version control service at scopevcs.com and its command-line tool. Scope is run by Adam Blumoff as an individual ("Scope", "we"). By creating an account or using Scope, you agree to these terms and to the privacy policy. Contact: hello@scopevcs.com.

Scope is pre-release software. Features change, data formats change, and the service may be interrupted or discontinued.

Your account

You must be at least 13 years old, or older where your country's law requires, to use Scope. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your sign-in methods and CLI sessions secure. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

Your content

You keep ownership of everything you put into Scope: code, requests, discussions, attachments and other content ("your content").

You give Scope a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, process, transmit and display your content only as needed to run the service for you and for the people you share it with. That includes running workflows, making backups, and showing public repositories to the public. This license ends when your content is deleted from Scope, except for copies in backups until they expire and copies other users have made, such as clones.

You are responsible for your content and confirm that you have the rights to put it on Scope. The Scope software itself is open source under the Apache License 2.0. These terms do not change that license.

Acceptable use

Do not use Scope to:

  • break the law or infringe anyone's intellectual property or privacy;
  • upload malware, or use Scope to attack, probe or disrupt other systems;
  • access accounts, repositories or data you are not authorized to access;
  • test Scope's security without following the security policy;
  • mine cryptocurrency, send spam, or use workflows for anything other than building, testing and working on your repositories;
  • place an unreasonable load on the service or get around usage limits;
  • harass, threaten or abuse others.

Scope may set limits on storage, workflow compute and requests to keep the service available for everyone.

Copyright complaints

If you believe content on Scope infringes your copyright, email hello@scopevcs.com. Identify the work, the content you believe infringes it, and how to contact you. Scope will review the report and remove infringing content. Accounts that repeatedly infringe are closed.

Suspension and termination

You can stop using Scope and delete your account at any time from your account page.

Scope may suspend or close accounts, or remove content, that violate these terms or put the service or other users at risk. Where practical, Scope will explain why and give you a chance to export your repositories first. Scope may discontinue the service. If it does, it will give reasonable advance notice where possible so you can export your data.

Disclaimers

Scope is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Keep your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, Scope is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue or data. Scope's total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid Scope in the 12 months before the claim and US$100.

Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Missouri, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes relating to these terms or Scope go to the state or federal courts in Missouri, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring them in your local courts.

Changes

When these terms change, the effective date above changes. For significant changes, Scope will notify account holders by email or in the product before the change takes effect. Continuing to use Scope after that means you accept the updated terms.
